Polyurethane (PU) pigments Why pre-disperse?

2022-11-24

Pre-dispersed pigments are pigments that disperse traditional pigments to improve their particle size, coloring strength, and especially dispersibility. For the coloring of polyurethane resins, pigment predispersions (pastes) are often used instead of pigment powders; Because in the production of predispersions, a rigorous grinding and stirring process ensures that the tiny PU pigment particles are completely dispersed in a small amount of polyurethane resin support, so that the carrier can maximize color.

When the predispersion is added to most polyurethane resins, it is easy to stir to ensure that the pigment is well mixed with the resin (rather than agglomerating in the resin).

Because this predispersion is essentially a mixture of resin and pigment, a particular predispersed pigment type can only be used to color a specific resin type, for example, polyurethane (PU) resins can only use polyurethane type predispersed pigments.
