What are the main differences between PU paint and water-based paint?

2023-11-21

PU paint and water-based paint are both common types of paint. Their main differences are as follows:

Different ingredients: PU paint is an oil-based paint, the main component is polyurethane resin; while water-based paint is based on water, the main component is acrylic resin and other additives.

Odor and environmental protection: PU paint contains a large amount of solvents, so it will produce a heavier odor when used. Water-based paint, on the other hand, uses water as a base, produces almost no odor when used, and is more environmentally friendly.

Drying speed and construction conditions: PU paint dries quickly because it contains a large amount of solvent, but it needs to be constructed under conditions of higher temperature and lower humidity. Water-based paint dries slower, but can be applied under looser environmental conditions.

Durability: PU paint has good durability and waterproof properties, and is suitable for occasions with high weather resistance requirements. Water-based paint is relatively weak in terms of durability and is suitable for some occasions that do not require high durability.

Color and effect: Due to the composition and construction conditions of PU paint, its color and effect are more vivid and bright. Water-based paint, however, has certain color differences and insufficient gloss due to limitations in composition and construction conditions.

In general, PU paint is mainly suitable for occasions that require high durability and anti-penetration performance, such as painting cars, machines, equipment, etc.; while water-based paint is more suitable for interior decoration, furniture, toys, etc., because it is more durable It is environmentally friendly, easy to apply, has relatively short drying time, has little odor, and is suitable for painting large areas.
